The California Redwood is currently native to a narrow strip of land on the coast of California from Monterey to near the Oregon border. The tallest living California Redwood is also the tallest tree in the world at 379 feet. These trees can live as long as 1800 years or more. A few of these California Redwoods have been planted in Washington State on the Olympic Peninsula.
One beautiful specimen of California Redwood, probably planted at the end of the 1800s and one of the largest trees on the Kitsap Peninsula, is on a piece of property adjacent to the Albers Vista Gardens and can be viewed from anywhere in the garden as well as in the entire neighborhood.
The property has the potential of being developed raising the concern that this tree could be cut down because there is no legal protection against this to happen. To preserve this majestic specimen for centuries to come, we have approached the owner offering to buy the quarter of an acre where the tree stands.
We are delighted to inform that our offer was accepted and as of April 9, 2013 what was previously referred to as the wonderful “borrowed scenery” is now an integral part of Albers Vista Gardens. More exciting news will follow concerning the design of this new garden room.
